The Spotlight Initiative is a global, multi-year partnership between the European Union and the United Nations to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. The Spotlight Initiative responds to all forms of violence against women and girls, with a particular focus on sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices. The Initiative is so named as it brings focused attention to this issue, moving it into the spotlight and placing it at the center of efforts to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment. The project was implemented through adolescent girls and young women in FCT with Focus intervention in Amac, Kuje, and Gwagwalada ( Nyanya, Jukwoi, Orozo, Papalana, Kurudu, and Karshi). Through the Spot light initiative project ASWHAN has trained 50 young Advocate who are champions for Gender Base violence across the selected communities. ASWHAN also collaborate with partners like the Nigerian Police, National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, National Human right commission, FIDA, and the Media to prosecute the offenders.
Under this project we have achieved the following: Trained 40 vulnerable women and girls to be able to know their rights and claim these rights.( spotlight initiative and Un women UBRAF project), Sensitization of 55 police officers on the right of women and girls facing discrimination to Provide Justice for GBV survivors, Provided Psychosocial support for 101 families and Individuals who experience rape and abuse.
